Namdev

Namdev Distributes His Fortune

He cried, "O Krishna, the Purifier of sinners, the Lover of devotees, the Ornament of saints, the Ocean of mercy, the Life of the world, the Delight of the heart, Shri Vitthal. You are the Unborn, the Unconquered, the Imperishable, unaffected by illusion, devoid of any pain, the Helper of the helpless, the Home of compassion. Why have you exhausted yourself for my sake? You never appear before those who practice rigorous austerities, yet today, for my sake, you became the merchant Keshavshet. O Merciful One, Mother Krishna, it was not I who caused you this trouble, yet you rushed to my aid on foot. Devotees with desires in their hearts worship you, but you do not grant them the wealth they seek. However, without my asking, O Husband of Rukmini, you lovingly came to my assistance. If a cloud pours down rain into the ocean, what use is it? Therefore, O God, I consider the gold you gave me to be of no value. I cast aside worldly riches, the powers and accomplishments represented by Riddhis and Siddhis, royal wealth, and even the four forms of final liberation, including that of Saloka. I think only of your feet day and night. I am ignorant of sacred places, religious rituals, the practices of yoga, mystical formulas, and austerities. I only sing your name with love day and night."

Praising God with these words, Nama then summoned the Brahmins of the town and generously bestowed upon them the money, garments, and ornaments. Now, without any hindrance, Nama worshiped the Divine Being with reverence. Even Lord Brahma himself was unaware of Nama's profound love.
